⚡️🇺🇸🇮🇶 — U.S. Central Command says it completed the orderly departure of forces and equipment from Erbil Air Base on Sept. 30, marking the end of the Operation Inherent Resolve mission in Iraq.

The move is part of a planned transition to a U.S.-Iraq bilateral defense relationship. CJTF-OIR remains operational and is now headquartered in Jordan, continuing the counter-ISIS mission in Syria alongside coalition partners and the Syrian government.

Erbil Air Base served as the main operational hub for CJTF-OIR, hosting most of the 1,500 American and coalition personnel supporting counter-ISIS operations. American and coalition forces began departing federal Iraq last October.

CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper praised the service members, diplomats, and civilians involved, saying ISIS no longer poses a systemic threat to Iraq's national security and that Iraqi forces now have the capacity and operational independence to manage threats unilaterally. He added that U.S. and coalition forces across the region remain ready to respond to any ISIS threats.
