⚡️🇺🇸🇮🇷 — US President Donald Trump told Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst he is in a "deciding mode" on Iran and that very big things will happen in the "not-so-distant future." Trump described the choices on the table as wiping Iran out, letting them rot economically, or making a deal. He added: "My question is, if and when do I blow the entire nation up? They better behave."
➡️ He said he would probably be open to meeting with the Iranian leader, with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian set to attend the UN General Assembly this week, and described the weekend as no different from any other despite alerts sent to US citizens across the region.
➡️ Yingst reported that Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen targeted Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles yesterday. Trump said the United States is in constant communication with the Houthis and that they have agreed not to fight the US.
➡️ Yingst noted the US naval blockade remains in place and is affecting the Iranian economy. CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper said more than a billion barrels of crude oil have been escorted out of the Persian Gulf since the blockade began, undercutting Iranian efforts to stabilize its economy.
➡️ Trump described the challenge of bringing deal-capable Iranian officials to the table, saying some officials are "hiding like rats," and said his administration is dealing with two groups inside Iran: more moderate voices, President Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and hardline IRGC officials who have continued to try to attack US forces across the Middle East. The timeline for a decision remains unclear. Iranian officials will be in New York City for the UN General Assembly meetings.
