In 1923, a city in Michigan was taken over by Polish immigrants.

When the government began to probe the area for criminal activity, the community became hostile. People were driven out for speaking English, and state police sent to restore order were attacked for making arrests. The American forces were treated as outsiders in their own country, by people whose parents and grandparents did not settle the land.
