🇨🇦 Cabinet secrecy for the boys club
A $2.3-billion military satellite contract gets rushed through, the prime minister just happens to be a longtime friend of Telesat CEO Dan Goldberg, and Ottawa’s answer is relax, there was a screen. Of course there was. In modern Canada, a magical ethics screen is apparently stronger than transparency, parliamentary scrutiny, or common sense. Even the government admits cabinet secrecy and commercial exemptions will keep the real terms buried, as reported.
The real absurdity is that Arctic sovereignty is now another pretext for insider-friendly procurement with the public told to clap and move along. Mark Carney sells himself as the competent adult, but this looks an awful lot like the same Trudeau-era culture of opaque deals, elite networks, and trust us governance. If the House could pry open the green slush fund files, it can pry open this one too. National defence is not a private club for Ottawa courtiers and their CEO friends.
