🇨🇦 Carney's lead over Poilievre may be more about vibes than policies, new poll suggests
The sharpest takeaway is brutal: the policies are basically the same, but Canadians trust the banker in a nicer suit. A Leger poll of 1,514 people found that on six nearly identical policy positions, Mark Carney outperformed Pierre Poilievre by 9 to 14 points purely because his name was attached. Fewer immigrants, more pipelines, more military spending, faster infrastructure, even concessions in a U.S. trade deal, same menu, different salesman, as reported.
That tells you something ugly about modern Canadian politics: media-manufactured credibility now beats substance outright. Carney gets the benefit of the doubt because he looks and sounds like establishment competence, which is exactly how the managerial class launders the same agenda back into office. If the Liberals can steal conservative positions, wrap them in technocrat packaging, and still lead 46 per cent to 34 per cent, then the real contest is not policy but narrative control. Trudeauism with a boardroom accent is still Trudeauism.
