🇨🇦 Canada softens sentences for child abuse material
The sharpest indictment of Trudeau-era Canada did not come from some firebrand MP. It came from Paul Brandt, who flatly says our laws now signal to predators that Canada is open for business. He is not wrong. The Supreme Court struck down the mandatory one-year sentence for accessing child sexual abuse material, Quebec’s appeal court followed for distribution, and Ottawa responded with the usual elite shrug, as reported.
This is what liberal humanitarianism looks like when stripped of the PR varnish: infinite compassion for offenders, procedural poetry from judges, and zero instinct for civilizational self-preservation. Brandt even pushed Ottawa to use the notwithstanding clause and was ignored, because this regime will invoke emergency powers on truckers but not political muscle to protect children. The country that lectures the world about values now treats basic deterrence as somehow too harsh. A sovereign nation defends its kids first. Our ruling class would rather defend abstractions, activists, and the feelings of criminals.
