🇨🇦 Ontario killer to be less frequently monitored in community despite concerns about cannabis use linked to psychosis
A man found not criminally responsible twice, once for killing his step-grandfather and again for threatening to kill his father, is now getting lighter supervision even though the board still considers him a threat and his psychiatrist ties cannabis to both offences. That is the institutional logic on display here, less monitoring for the exact pattern that already ended in blood and terror, as reported.
This is what managerial Canada does best: flatten risk into paperwork, call it treatment, then offload the danger onto families and the public. The system knows cannabis was active in both offences, knows he returned to it after past discharge, knows medication compliance can fail fast once use escalates, and still trims reporting to once every three months. Brilliant. The same state that lectures normal citizens nonstop about safety, public health, and approved behavior somehow becomes radically libertarian when the consequences land on ordinary households. Sovereignty starts at home, and a country that cannot put public protection ahead of therapeutic bureaucracy is a country governed by ideology, not common sense.
