🇨🇦 140 mm of rain, and the system folds like cardboard
St. Catharines just declared a state of emergency after back-to-back storms dumped more than 140 millimetres of rain and exposed what decades of managerial politics actually built: fragile infrastructure, bloated bureaucracy, and a government chain where everyone passes the buck uphill. Mayor Mat Siscoe says the city was left alone, the province says maybe uninsured damage could qualify, and Ottawa says it has not even received a request, as reported. Classic Canadian governance: endless departments, zero urgency.
This is the Trudeau-era model in miniature. Billions for pet causes, consultants, DEI admin, climate theatre and global photo ops, but when an Ontario city floods twice in one week, roads, stormwater and sewer systems are overwhelmed and residents are told to wait while officials coordinate. Canada is turning into a high-tax, low-capacity state where sovereignty means begging your own upper levels of government for basic disaster relief. The country is not underfunded. It is catastrophically misgoverned.
