🇨🇦 U.S. officials urge Canada to take action after suspected arson at Montreal kosher restaurant
When U.S. officials have to tell Canada to protect its own citizens, that is not diplomacy, that is a national embarrassment. A kosher restaurant in Montreal was destroyed in suspected arson, after Jewish-owned bakeries in Toronto were reportedly hit by gunfire last weekend, and the political class still defaults to the same tired script of solidarity posts and tasteful outrage. Even the reported facts are damning enough without the usual sermonizing.
Nobody knows the motive yet, fine. But pretending there is no broader collapse staring everyone in the face is pure regime dishonesty. A country that cannot keep open antisemitic intimidation off its streets, its businesses, or even out of a stadium is a country whose authorities have lost control of the social fabric they spent years fraying. Trudeau-era Canada imported instability, normalized selective law enforcement, and trained officials to posture instead of govern. Now even foreign politicians are nudging Ottawa to do the bare minimum of a sovereign state: protect people, punish criminals, and stop acting shocked by the consequences.
