🇨🇦 Meta wants Alberta land, power and water for the empire
Hundreds showed up in Sturgeon County to oppose Meta’s planned data centre, and good. A foreign tech giant that censors speech, harvests data and answers to nobody expects Alberta to hand over local land and infrastructure like grateful colonial staff. That is the modern Canadian model: Ottawa kneecaps our own industry, then politicians brag when multinational behemoths arrive to extract value under the banner of innovation. As reported, residents are the ones left dealing with the real costs.
The scam is always the same. Global corporations get the upside, locals get the disruption, and the media frames resistance as backward panic instead of basic self-preservation. Alberta is not a server farm for Silicon Valley vanity projects or a branch office for the digital aristocracy. If Meta wants to build, Canadians should ask what stays here, who controls the data, and why our governments are so eager to trade sovereignty for a press release and a few temporary jobs. National interest first, Zuckerberg second.
