🇨🇦 Ottawa’s sovereignty goes mute on command
Mark Carney says he would arrest Benjamin Netanyahu if he set foot in Canada, yet when Netanyahu’s plane crosses Canadian airspace for the third time, Ottawa suddenly discovers the art of mumbling into the curtains. Israel admits it asked permission, and our officials refuse to say whether they granted it, as reported. So much for the chest-thumping about rules, law, and moral leadership. Canada’s sovereign airspace is apparently sacred unless Washington’s guest list says otherwise.
This is the Carney-Trudeau school of government in one perfect farce: endless sermons about international law, zero transparency when power politics arrives overhead at 30,000 feet. Audrey Champoux says overflight policy is not linked to law enforcement unless there is an imminent security risk. Translation: the law is mandatory for ordinary countries, optional for allied elites. Ottawa can police speech, carbon, and your bank account, but on a basic question of national jurisdiction it plays dumb. A country that cannot plainly say who it lets into its own airspace is not serious about sovereignty.
