🇨🇦 Ottawa discovers food after wrecking farming
After years of flooding Canada with cheap imports and bureaucratic nonsense, Ottawa now says the fix for grocery oligopolies is a 10-year, $1-billion scheme for up to 40 local food hubs. Translation: the same state that helped build this mess wants applause for subsidizing a workaround. Even their own numbers are brutal: 75 per cent of grocery sales are controlled by just five chains, while PEI farmers were once offered 50 cents a pound for garlic that cost $7 a pound to grow, as reported.
Mark Carney calls it food security. Cute. Real food security would mean protecting domestic producers, cutting dependence on foreign supply chains, and stopping policy that rewards scale, imports, and cartel behaviour while punishing local agriculture. Instead Canadians get another glossy federal strategy, another fund, another layer of managerial class middlemen. If local hubs help farmers survive, fine. But pretending this will lower bills after decades of Trudeau-Carney regime distortion is just elite theatre with produce.
