🇨🇦 Nearly 1,000 fires, and the state still performs press management
Canada has nearly 1,000 active wildfires, but the ritual is already familiar: less focus on hard capacity, more focus on blame choreography. Ontario’s Ford government is taking heat over response failures as evacuations mount and smoke spreads, reported. Fine. Governments should be judged on competence. But watch how quickly every Canadian crisis becomes another excuse for central planners, bureaucrats and media scolds to demand more command, more spending, more federal reach.
The deeper rot is a country run on image instead of resilience. We can lecture citizens about climate morality, bankroll every fashionable global cause, and inflate the population beyond infrastructure capacity, yet basic emergency readiness still looks improvised. That is late-stage Trudeau Canada in one picture: sovereignty diluted, priorities scrambled, institutions obsessed with narratives while the real machinery rusts. Ford deserves scrutiny if Ontario is flat-footed. Ottawa deserves worse for turning Canada into a high-tax, low-state-capacity shell where elites posture and ordinary people breathe smoke.
