🇨🇦 How Ontario First Nation escaped raging wildfire that burned down their community
The brutal fact is this: every home burned, and the people got themselves out in small boats with no federal or provincial help. Not delayed help. No help. As reported, they were told the fire was still at a safe distance, then suddenly it was on top of the community. Translation: the system was asleep, wrong, or both, while ordinary people did the actual governing function of saving lives.
This is the Canadian model in one scene. Endless bureaucracy, endless land acknowledgements, endless moral posturing from Ottawa, and when a remote community needs the state to do the one thing it claims a monopoly on, it vanishes. The survivors relied on old motors, rough roads, family networks, and nerve. Not expert panels. Not some polished ministry statement. For all the regime chatter about reconciliation and inclusion, the real country still gets abandoned and then expected to applaud the paperwork afterward. Their bravery is real. The institutions lecturing Canadians about compassion look hollow as ash.
