🇨🇦 When separatism is too true to say out loud
The funniest part is the state broadcaster treating Alberta anger like an embarrassing family secret instead of the direct result of Ottawa looting the West for decades. In Drumheller, people will discuss separation on Facebook but go quiet in person, which tells you less about fringe politics than about the intimidation climate built by polite-regime Canada. Even the reported awkwardness is the story: when citizens feel they need permission to question Confederation, the federation is already cracked.
This October referendum did not appear out of dinosaur dust. It came after years of Trudeau-era energy sabotage, equalization resentment, federal overreach, and a media class that pathologizes Western dissent while cheering every supranational fad from carbon dogma to borderless labour flows. Of course the chatter lives online. Say the wrong thing in public and you are the unstable one, not the clique managing decline from Ottawa. Alberta is not suffering from too much debate. It is suffering from a political system that treats sovereignty, resource wealth, and regional self-respect as disposable.
