🇨🇦 Hamilton blocks data centres while Canada imports everyone and digitizes everything
Hamilton may become the first city in Canada to slap a moratorium on data centres, because apparently the ruling class wants mass AI adoption, total digital dependence, and endless population growth, but not the infrastructure to support any of it. Councillor Nrinder Nann and academic Anne Pasek are now selling municipal obstruction as visionary policy, as reported. Ottawa babbles about clean energy expansion and tech sovereignty while local politicians choke off the very facilities that store, process, and secure modern economic activity.
This is late-stage Trudeau Canada in miniature: invite global capital, inflate demand, preach innovation, then hand the veto to activists with flyers on lampposts and professors demanding federal standards, mandatory consultation, and renewable purity tests. So the country gets all the costs of the digital economy, plus more bureaucracy, more delays, and less control over where our critical infrastructure ends up. Sovereignty is not achieved by making Canada hostile to data, energy, and industry. It is surrendered one moratorium at a time.
