🇨🇦 Ottawa’s values vanished the second money walked in
In 2018, Chrystia Freeland puffed out her moral-superpower chest over Saudi human rights. Saudi Arabia answered by expelling Canada’s ambassador, freezing trade, suspending flights, and pulling thousands of students. Now Mark Carney is flying in for the first Canadian PM visit in 26 years, and suddenly the sermon is over. Human rights are nowhere on the agenda while Ottawa chases energy, critical minerals, defence, infrastructure, and investment, as reported.
That is the real Trudeau-Carney legacy in one snapshot: loud progressive posturing when cameras are on, instant realism when the bill arrives. The same ruling class that lectures Canadians about values, diversity, and the rules-based order folds the minute a serious state holds leverage. Saudi Arabia acts in its own national interest. Canada’s elite act in their own branding interest until reality humiliates them. If Ottawa had any sovereignty left, it would stop moral cosplay abroad and start defending Canadian energy, industry, and strategic autonomy at home.
