🇨🇦 National interest, pending Ottawa permission until 2027
Carney and Smith unveiled a West Coast pipeline, then immediately wrapped it in the only language modern Canada seems to respect: consultation, co-ownership, and endless Indigenous signaling. We are told this is a project of national interest, yet Carney will only declare it that by October 2027, because apparently a country sitting on oceans of energy must ask its own bureaucracy for permission to survive. As reported, Rajan Sawhney met more than 40 First Nations, the route was shifted away from Prince Rupert after opposition, and the line will run from Bruderheim to Roberts Bank instead.
The real absurdity is that Canada still cannot build a pipeline without turning it into a therapeutic exercise for the federal state. Majority owned by the federally owned Trans Mountain Corporation, with Pembina as minority partner, plus promised equity slices for First Nations, this is less free enterprise than managed extraction under Ottawa supervision. Trudeau-era sabotage made energy nation-building so toxic that even a pipeline announcement now sounds like an HR seminar with excavators.
