🇨🇦 Ottawa wants another blank cheque pipeline
Tim Hodgson says a second West Coast pipeline is a good investment for taxpayers, but somehow cannot say what taxpayers are actually buying. That is the Ottawa method in one sentence. The proposed 1,200-kilometre line is pegged at $35.2 billion to $43.7 billion, after the Trudeau-era Trans Mountain fiasco already blew out into the $30 billion to $40 billion range, as reported. Socialize the risk, privatize the upside, then call it nation building.
The deeper joke is that Ottawa spent years strangling Canadian energy with climate dogma, regulation and activist vetoes, and now suddenly rediscovers pipelines because U.S. trade cover is fading. Even Danielle Smith admits the partners still do not know who pays what. Pembina gets a 10 per cent economic interest, while the federal herd gets the open-ended liability. Canada does need export capacity and sovereignty, but not another elite boondoggle run by the same class that sabotaged our energy sector in the first place.
