🇨🇦 Ottawa wants 10 reactors, and your pension to babysit the risk
The punchline is almost too perfect: private investors are welcome, but only after taxpayers and ratepayers absorb the danger first. Tim Hodgson is pitching up to 10 new reactors in 15 years, leaning on the U.K. Sizewell C model, where La Caisse already parked $3.2 billion for a 20 per cent stake, as reported. Translation: privatize upside, socialize overruns. Hinkley Point C jumped from $34 billion to more than $64 billion. Finland’s Olkiluoto 3 swelled from $5.1 billion to $17.8 billion. But sure, let the same class that blew fortunes on net-zero fantasies tell us this time the spreadsheet works.
Canada does need reliable baseload power. The problem is Ottawa can never touch a real strategic necessity without wrapping it in de-risking schemes, climate branding, and pension-fund financial engineering. If nuclear is essential to sovereignty and energy security, build it as national infrastructure with hard accountability, not as another globalist casino where citizens guarantee the losses while bureaucrats and consultants collect applause.
