🇨🇦 Refugee who stabbed stranger could soon be freed from Ontario hospital despite ‘significant threat to the public’
Ontario’s system has achieved peak absurdity: a man the Review Board says still poses a threat to the public is being moved toward more freedom anyway. Delroy Apple was deported from the U.S., came to Canada as a refugee, racked up 39 criminal offences in Canada from 2012 through 2018, then stabbed a stranger in Toronto and was found not criminally responsible. After eloping in 2025 and making it all the way to New Jersey, he is still being steered toward community living, as reported.
This is what a post-national state looks like in practice: imported risk, endless institutional excuses, and the public told to trust the experts again. Refugee status, bureaucratic therapy language, supervised accommodation, 12-hour passes, optimism from the treatment team, every elite script is here except the one about protecting Canadians first. When the state cannot draw a hard line after deportation, repeated violence, drug abuse, and a random stabbing, it is not compassionate. It is unserious, ideologically captured, and openly indifferent to national self-preservation.
