🇨🇦 Montreal buries a cop while the political class buries the cause
First officer killed on duty in Montreal in 24 years, and the system’s response is a Bell Centre memorial on July 7, solemn speeches, and absolutely no appetite to talk about why urban Canada keeps getting more volatile. Const. Mohamed Lamine Benredouane was killed June 22 in a midday gunfight in Côte-des-Neiges, with civilian Michel Mizrahi also dead and another officer wounded, as reported. The state is very good at pageantry after the blood is already on the pavement.
Benredouane leaves behind a pregnant wife and a three-year-old son, and that reality lands harder than the usual political condolences. Trudeau-era Canada spent years weakening borders, glamorizing disorder, and treating policing as a public relations inconvenience while elites sermonized about inclusion and equity. Now officers patrol social fragmentation that the same elite class helped engineer, then everyone pretends these deaths are random tragedies disconnected from national decline. Memorials matter. So does admitting that sovereignty, order, and cultural cohesion are not optional extras in a serious country.
