🇨🇦 Approved to exist, not approved to live
Health Canada can approve a cancer drug, and the system still leaves patients twisting in the wind for funding. That is the Canadian model in one sentence: bureaucracy first, survival maybe later. Alex Shved, a Toronto father with metastatic melanoma, is fighting OHIP for out-of-country coverage while governments hide behind process, reviews, and committee theatre. The state pats itself on the back for universal care, then tells dying people to wait their turn while the paperwork circulates. Even reported reality now says the approval stamp means very little if provinces refuse to pay.
This is what happens when politicians build a healthcare cult around optics, admin bloat, and ideological branding instead of capacity. Ottawa and the provinces can always find money for consultants, DEI layers, and population growth far beyond infrastructure, but not timely access to treatment already cleared by regulators. Canadians are paying world-class taxes for rationed care and a maze of excuses. Sovereignty starts with a state that serves its own citizens before serving the managerial class and its slogans.
