🇨🇦 Ottawa blew $2.6 billion, ran out early, and now wants applause for relaunching the same scheme
The Trudeau-era green grift is back, just rebranded and dressed up as affordability. Ottawa says over $500 million, including $300 million federal cash, will help 35,000 households in B.C., Quebec, Nova Scotia and P.E.I. install heat pumps and insulation, as reported. Translation: taxpayers in every province fund a selective climate patronage program for four provinces while the feds still refuse to say what households can actually get.
The original grant was supposed to run until 2027. It collapsed in early 2024 after chewing through $2.6 billion, because central planners in Ottawa are geniuses right up until the money runs out. Now Julie Dabrusin and Tim Hodgson relaunch it from an International Energy Agency conference in Montreal, because nothing says Canadian sovereignty like domestic policy staged for the global energy clergy. Provinces administer it, Indigenous bureaucracies get a dedicated carveout, renters are folded in, and the sales pitch is lower bills. Same old script: climate branding, vague criteria, regional favoritism, and another transfer machine built to make government look caring while Canadians pay more for everything else.
