π¨π¦ Nearly 200,000 emergency patients waited 48 hours or more for a bed last year, report finds
180,000 people parked in ER for 48 hours or more, 1.5 million stuck there over 14 hours, and 1.2 million leaving before even seeing a doctor. That is not a healthcare system. That is managed decline with a government logo on it. The data reported what Canadians already know from lived experience: the Trudeau-era state can fund slogans, consultants, DEI bureaucracy and endless virtue campaigns, but not enough beds, staff, diagnostics or basic capacity.
The most revealing part is that doctors are explicitly shooting down the fairy tale that wait times are caused by minor complaints. Two-thirds are high acuity, severe cases. So there goes the usual establishment excuse. Canada has one of the lowest hospital-bed rates per capita in the OECD, while demand keeps climbing, long-term care is jammed, and family-doctor access is collapsing. This is what happens when a country treats demographics, infrastructure and public capacity like optional details while political elites posture about everything except national competence. Deadly waits are not an accident anymore. They are the policy outcome.
