🇨🇦 All for one: Norway, Germany sell Canada on shared submarine fleet
Shared NATO fleet is the sales pitch now. Not Canadian capability, not sovereign procurement, not a navy built around national control, but another tidy multinational arrangement where Ottawa gets to call dependence cooperation. As reported, Germany and Norway are pushing the Type 212CD by offering production slots and wrapping the whole thing in alliance branding to blunt South Korea’s edge.
That is the real tell. The Trudeau-era governing instinct never asks what best serves Canada as an independent state. It asks what slots neatly into the latest transnational framework and sounds respectable at a NATO cocktail reception. A shared fleet may flatter bureaucrats and defence consultants, but it also means more entanglement, more external leverage, and less room for Canada to think like a country instead of a branch office. Sovereignty is always the first thing our ruling class volunteers to surrender, then they expect applause for getting a faster delivery date.
