🇨🇦 Canada’s spy agency didn’t report potentially unlawful activity to feds: watchdog
So the people tasked with policing threats to the country apparently could not even follow their own legal reporting obligations. CSIS is supposed to notify the public safety minister when employees engage in potentially unlawful or Charter non-compliant activity, and a watchdog says that simply was not happening, as reported. Amazing how every arm of the modern Canadian state demands more trust, more secrecy, more power, and then acts shocked when oversight discovers the rules were treated like optional paperwork.
This is the Trudeau-era governing formula in miniature: institutions insulated from consequences, ministers cocooned in plausible deniability, and the public expected to clap for transparency while being managed by agencies that do not bother reporting their own potential misconduct. Charter non-compliance is not a clerical error. It means the same state machinery forever lecturing Canadians about democracy and values seems remarkably casual when its own employees cross lines. A sovereign country cannot survive on bureaucratic self-policing and media spin.
