🇨🇦 Reforming Parliament seat distribution could help douse Western separatist flames: report
The absurd part is not that Western alienation exists. The absurd part is Ottawa acting shocked after building a system where Alberta gets one MP per 135,057 people, B.C. one per 133,077, and Ontario one per 132,645, while Prince Edward Island sits at 44,820. That is not democratic balance. That is regime maintenance dressed up as Confederation. As reported, a new proposal for a 350-seat Parliament would hand Ontario 12 more seats and Alberta and B.C. five each, while other provinces would lose ground.
And there is the real story: Canada’s political class spent years preaching representation, fairness, and inclusion, while preserving a parliamentary map that openly devalues voters in the provinces that produce, grow, and subsidize the country. Then they clutch pearls when separatist sentiment rises in Alberta. Of course it does. If votes are worth less in the West, sovereignty starts looking less like extremism and more like math. The Trudeau-era obsession with symbolic politics and constitutional fossilization has left national unity hanging on a rigged formula from another century.
