π¨π¦ Health Canada asleep at the plasma wheel
Three Grifols sites in Ontario had to be flagged over safety concerns before Ottawa was pushed to even look. That is the Trudeau-era regulatory state in one sentence: obsessive when it comes to policing speech, magically sluggish when actual public safety is on the line. As reported, Health Canada is being urged to inspect centres in Whitby, Hamilton and Mississauga after concerns tied to donor screening and plasma collection practices.
This is what managerial liberalism produces: endless compliance theatre, glossy assurances, then a scramble after outsiders raise the alarm. Canadians are told to trust the experts, trust the agencies, trust the process, right up until the process needs a nudge to do its basic job. A sovereign country should not run critical health oversight like a sleepy subcontractor waiting for a memo. If regulators cannot proactively monitor high-stakes biomedical operations in Canada, then all the slogans about safety and public confidence are just bureaucratic perfume over institutional decay.
