🇨🇦 When Ottawa pushes too far, the West starts talking exit
Alberta referendum chatter is no fringe tantrum. It is the predictable result of a federation run like an extraction racket, where Ottawa takes Western wealth, strangles Western energy, and lectures everyone about unity while central Canada cashes the cheque. Danielle Smith meeting with Scott Moe, David Eby and others, as reported, is less about symbolism than accumulated federal sabotage finally hitting the boiling point.
For a decade, Trudeau treated the West as a colony with pipelines. Equalization bleeds productivity, federal regulation kneecaps resource development, and the national media still acts shocked that Albertans are discussing sovereignty. Imagine that. A government obsessed with global summits, net-zero dogma and post-national vanity somehow produced regional alienation. Ottawa spent years eroding Canadian sovereignty abroad and provincial autonomy at home, then expects applause when the country starts coming apart at the seams. If the West is asking whether this arrangement still serves its interests, that is not extremism. That is basic political adulthood.
