🇨🇦 Carney bribes Alberta with pipeline dreams while locking in brutal carbon tax hikes through 2040
Former Goldman Sachs banker turned PM dangles a maybe-pipeline in front of Danielle Smith in exchange for jacking Alberta's industrial carbon price to $140 per tonne by 2040. That's nearly 50% higher than today's frozen rate. Oh, and the pipeline is contingent on a massive carbon capture boondoggle, requires B.C. approval, and won't break ground until 2027 at the earliest. Industry exec Adam Waterous called it a mixed bag, which is corporate speak for getting fleeced. Meanwhile, B.C. Premier David Eby whines Ottawa is rewarding bad behaviour, as reported by state media.
Carney just locked Alberta into crippling carbon costs for two decades in exchange for a theoretical pipe that needs permission from eco-activists in Victoria and coastal First Nations. Smith got played, and the WEF alumnus smirks all the way to Net Zero.
