πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Danielle Smith just agreed to spend $600 million of your money to make Alberta less competitive

Alberta will fork over half of a $1.2 billion slush fund to soften the blow of hiking industrial carbon taxes to $130 per tonne by 2040 β€” all to get Mark Carney's permission to build a pipeline on Canadian soil. The deal, confirmed Friday, forces oilsands producers to pay Carney's climate ransom while Smith props them up with taxpayer cash because even she knows the tax will cripple competitiveness. So Alberta gets to pay twice: once in carbon taxes, once in bailouts.

This is what trading sovereignty for a handshake looks like. Carney dangles a pipeline β€” something Alberta should never need federal approval for β€” and Smith agrees to bankroll a $20 billion carbon capture boondoggle and a tax hike that international competitors will never match. The province that feeds the country is now paying Ottawa for the privilege of doing business. Stunning capitulation dressed up as a win.

National Post The $600M cost of Danielle Smith’s carbon deal with Ottawa Alberta Premier Danielle Smith on Friday was quick to tout the potential economic benefits of her latest pipeline deal with Prime Minister Mark Carney. Beneath those headline claims, however, is a much less visible $600-million cost.
