🇨🇦 Ottawa pays $8.7M for letting hackers loot CRA accounts during CERB bonanza — admits nothing
The feds will settle with 47,000 Canadians whose data was stolen when hackers ransacked CRA portals in 2020 to file fraudulent COVID benefit claims. SINs, bank accounts, home addresses — all compromised while Trudeau's government sprayed billions at anything that moved. The lawsuit called CRA's negligence reprehensible, but naturally Ottawa denies all wrongdoing while cutting the cheque. Pure bureaucratic theater.
Credential stuffing was the attack method, meaning the CRA couldn't even secure basic login protocols during the largest wealth transfer in Canadian history. They locked down the portal only after victims screamed online. Todd Sweet from Clinton found four fake CERB applications filed in his name. How many fraudsters were never Canadian residents to begin with? That question won't be answered, because asking it would require admitting the entire emergency apparatus was a sieve by design.
