🇨🇦 Canada is losing to the U.S. in these five categories, report on higher education finds
Canada ranks fifth globally in higher education but still trails the U.S., scoring weaker on openness, sustainability, and demographics and investment. That last pillar measures national support for education adjusted for GDP and human capital—and rewards countries with equal participation of men and women. Translation: DEI metrics are baked into the scorecard, and Canada still can't keep up with American funding or output. We're being outspent and out-invested despite our institutions scoring perfect marks on academic integrity.
Meanwhile, Canadian universities continue sliding in global rankings. UofT dropped from 21st to 29th in two years. UBC fell from 34th to 40th. But at least we lead in international integration—code for importing foreign students to subsidize bloated administrations while domestic talent flees south for better pay and fewer struggle sessions. Fifth place is still a loss when the competition matters.
