🇨🇦 Quebec dangled permanent residency, imported 45,000 workers, then yanked the ladder
Premier Christine Fréchette campaigned on reopening the PEQ fast-track immigration program she herself helped abolish last November. Now French families who uprooted their lives are stuck in limbo while their work permits expire and their kids cry themselves to sleep. Immigration lawyer Yves Martineau says clients are fleeing to Halifax, Calgary, and Yellowknife because Quebec can't decide if it wants workers or demographic control. The CAQ scrapped PEQ to tighten immigration volumes, but conveniently kept the labour these people provided while the promises evaporated.
This is managed migration in its purest form: lure them in when you need cheap labour, cancel the deal when the political winds shift, then act shocked when they leave or demand answers. Quebec wanted French-speakingintegrators on its terms, not theirs. The bait-and-switch continues while 45,000 people wait for a government that may never deliver before October elections.
