🇨🇦 Carney's Ottawa already on its knees — Trump wants concessions before negotiations even start
Washington is demanding an entry fee just to sit down for CUSMA talks, and Canada has already caved twice without getting anything back. Last spring Ottawa dropped steel and aluminum counter-tariffs. In June, Carney scrapped the digital services tax on Amazon, Apple, and Meta — a three percent levy that would've clawed back some revenue from foreign tech monopolies. Finance Minister Champagne promised it would advance negotiations. Nine months later: zero progress, zero reciprocity, zero backbone.
Trump knows weakness when he sees it. Carney talks about mutual outcomes and taking time, but his track record is unilateral surrender. The only leverage left — provincial bans on American booze — and even that is being framed as something Canada needs to give up for real concessions. This is what happens when you elect a former central banker and WEF regular to defend national interests. He was never built for it.
