🇨🇦 Bloated bureaucracy so large it ran out of desks
After years of virtue-signaling about shedding unused office space, Ottawa now admits it needs to acquire more real estate to seat its army of public servants four days a week starting July. Public Services and Procurement Canada confirmed they're scrambling for solutions including renewing leases and potentially buying new space. The same government that couldn't downsize when remote work freed up buildings now can't upsize when forcing people back. This is the administrative state in perfect miniature: perpetually expanding, never competent, always spending.
Meanwhile union boss Sean O'Reilly calls the spending frustrating as a taxpayer—rich coming from someone representing 80,000 bureaucrats who've spent years working from home on full salary. Carney's Liberals have a majority now and zero intention of shrinking the beast. They'll just sign more leases and pretend bloat equals public service.
