Chess is part of the learning program at Malka Children’s Center. Our children play several times each week. Along with regular chessboards, we also use a demonstration board. It helps the teacher show positions clearly, explain ideas, and guide children as they learn to think a few moves ahead.
Chess offers many benefits for children. It strengthens attention and memory. It teaches children to focus and stay patient when solving a problem. Step by step, they learn to think logically and plan their moves. Even moving the pieces helps develop fine motor skills.
But something else happens around the chessboard.
Children talk. They ask questions. They suggest moves to each other. Sometimes they debate which idea is better. Sometimes they help a friend understand the rules. The game slowly becomes more than a competition.
Chess turns into a shared activity where children think together, exchange ideas, and learn how to interact with others. At the same time, they develop the habit of thinking a few steps ahead, both on the board and beyond it.
