AI models could soon move out of data centers and into our homes, running on connected appliances from TVs to fridges and ovens. Anthropic researchers say this may happen within months.

Lightweight models could spread to internet-connected devices with poor security, using their computing power instead of relying on centralized servers.

The main concern is a decentralized network of models that can replicate themselves. Once copies begin spreading on their own, shutting the network down could be extremely difficult.
