🇪🇺EU Leaders Fail to Agree on €1.7 Trillion Defense Budget

The EU summit in Brussels ended without an agreement on the EU's budget for 2028-2034, which was planned to be €1.76 trillion, including increased defense spending. Negotiations failed as an attempt to cut spending by €140 billion sparked a heated dispute between wealthy donor countries and the main beneficiaries of the European treasury.

The final outcome of the meeting was particularly revealing. European leaders came up with nothing better than simply canceling the final press conference. Heads of state, including Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa, hastily left the European Council building, refusing to answer uncomfortable questions from journalists about the financial prospects of the "united Europe."
