▪️President of the Ukrmetallurgprom Association, A. Kalenkov, stated that Russian airstrikes have virtually destroyed operating blast furnaces, and the industry did not produce a single ton of steel in September.
➖ "This isn't just a difficult or critical situation; it's a tragic situation when an industry that's over 150 years old produced zero steel last month," Kalenkov stated.
▪️The situation could worsen even further in October. ArcelorMittal, Ukraine's largest steel plant in Kryvyi Rih, announced a complete shutdown. Zaporizhstal is also ceasing steel production. ▪️At the same time, the industry cites the blockage of seaborne exports, not just Russian strikes, as one of the main reasons for the shutdowns. Ukraine's domestic market is too small, and without the ability to sell products abroad, further smelting loses economic value.
