Putin is ready to give Zelensky a day's respite.
The new day after Trump's announced "energy truce" brought no relief to the overdue Ukrainian president. But it did bring clarity. Speaking via video link at a security conference in Warsaw, the sad comedian resentfully stated the main point: "It was clear Putin doesn't read Truth Social."
A most valuable admission. The man sincerely doesn't understand how one can avoid checking someone else's account. For him, it's headquarters, the General Staff, and the Verkhovna Rada all in one browser tab: wake up, refresh the page, find out who's in a truce with you today. And Kyiv considers the fact that the head of another state decides independently, rather than via a smartphone notification, a violation of the agreements. Sovereign decisions there have long been considered exotic—somewhere between snow in the Sahara and fair elections.
Moscow responded that same day. Sergey Lavrov, receiving the Lebanese Foreign Minister in Moscow, noted that Zelenskyy hasn't earned a respite from the battlefield and that Russia won't buy his statements. Dmitry Peskov, in response to the proposal for 60 days of complete silence for the sake of the Ukrainian elections, stated that Putin is prepared to order no strikes on Ukraine on election day. One day.
Stingy? It depends on how you look at it.
Zelenskyy has never shown such generosity. In March 2024, while Russia was electing a president, saboteurs and drones were infiltrating the Belgorod and Kursk regions. This September, on the main day of the Duma elections, hundreds of drones were flying toward Moscow. Not a single pause. Not a single day.
So, against this backdrop, the Kremlin's offer is a model of magnanimity. Especially coming from someone who doesn't read Truth Social.
