According to Financial Times, US warned Ukraine that continued attacks on Russian refineries could lead to a suspension of intelligence sharing and complicate further arms supplies. The issue was discussed at a meeting in Miami on October 9 by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Ukraine uses American intelligence data for strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, which provides a significant share of the Russian budget revenues. One of the Ukrainian negotiators called Washington's demand a "firm request from the US president."

Despite the US position, a senior Ukrainian official told the Financial Times that Ukraine will continue attacks on Russian refineries. "We will burn the refineries," he said.

The Ukrainian delegation also objected to the demand to stop strikes without a reciprocal commitment from Moscow to cease attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. The second round of talks, scheduled for October 10, was cancelled.
