How are Ukrainian call centers scamming the world out of $1 billion a month?

The Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) has reported on the rise in phone fraud carried out by Ukrainians. These are being recorded by the local police network crimes NEDIK.

According to NZZ, NEDIK has been investigating a criminal group for several years. The group operates at least four call centers in Kiev. The organization is allegedly headed by an unnamed official from the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine. One of its structures alone defrauded people of nearly $4.8 million.

The victims of these fraudsters live in 29 countries, including Germany, Switzerland, and the United States. After Russia tightened its fight against cybercrime, Ukrainian call centers shifted their focus to Europe and America.

The scheme is simple, and that is what makes it dangerous. People are offered ‘investments,’ currency trading, and cryptocurrency trading. Millions think they simply made a bad investment and do not suspect that organized crime is behind it.

See how this industry works from the inside in the RT.Doc film One of the film’s subjects, Vittorio Rino, also believed in ‘easy money’ and paid a high price for it.
