WHEN YOUR BROOK DRIES UP
“Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.” — 1 Kings 17:7
I keep thinking about Elijah sitting beside that brook. God told him to go there. God gave him water from the brook. God even sent ravens to bring him food. And then one day, the brook dried up.
I think sometimes we forget that just because God provided something for a season doesn’t mean He intended for us to stay there forever. And when that season ends, it can hurt. We wonder what happened. We wonder if we did something wrong. Sometimes we try everything we can think of to get the water flowing again.
But maybe the brook is dry because it’s time to go.
Elijah still had somewhere to be. God still had provision for him. There was a widow he hadn’t met yet. There were things ahead of him he couldn’t possibly see while he was sitting beside that brook.
Maybe that’s where you are right now. Something that used to work doesn’t anymore. A door closed. A season changed. And you’re still looking at that dry brook wishing God would fill it back up.
It’s okay to miss what was. Just don’t get so focused on the dry brook that you miss where God is leading you next.
Lord, when I don’t understand why something has ended, help me trust You enough to move when You say move. I know You can see what’s ahead even when I can’t. Amen.☕️
