There are some topics that instantly make people uncomfortable and circumcision is one of them.
But I think as parents we should be able to sit in discomfort long enough to ask honest questions.
Why are healthy newborn boys routinely having part of their genitals surgically removed before they are old enough to consent?
Why is this seen as normal? And why are most parents never fully told the actual history of routine circumcision, what the foreskin actually is, or what the procedure involves?
This isn’t about shame. I know loving parents make this decision believing they are doing the right thing. Most are simply following what they were told was “normal.”
But normal does not always mean necessary.
I truly believe one of the most important things we can do as mothers and fathers is slow down long enough to question the things that have become automatic inside the system.
Every parent deserves full informed consent before irreversible decisions are made for their child.
