A torn window screen is a $5 fix. Not a $50 replacement.
Every summer it’s the same thing.
A hole appears in the screen.
Maybe the dog jumped at it.
Maybe a branch caught it.
Maybe it just gave out after years of use.
And most people do one of two things.
Live with it and let the bugs in.
Or spend $50 on a brand new screen.
Neither one is necessary.
Because the frame is perfectly fine.
All that needs replacing is the screen material inside it.
And that costs about $5 at any hardware store.
Here’s the full process:
• Pop the rubber spline out of the channel around the frame, it’s what holds the screen in place
• Pull the old damaged screen material out completely
• Lay the new screen material over the frame with overlap on every side
• Roll the spline back into the channel to lock the new screen in tight
• Trim the excess material with a utility knife along the spline channel
• Done
Brand new screen. Same frame. $5 and 10 minutes.
This is one of those repairs that exists on almost every home in America every single summer and almost nobody knows how simple the fix actually is.
Now you do.
