Mubarak’s father sat on the ground, placed his son’s head in his lap, wiped his blood with his sleeve, looked at his face for a long time, then broke down:
“I dreamed of being happy with you… I thought you’d grow up and help me.”
He screamed, pointing toward the mercenaries’ position:
“God curse you, mercenaries, you killed my beloved child!”
In the corner of the yard, the ball remained, mixed with dust and blood, no one daring to touch it. Just minutes before, it was the source of their laughter, their simple dream; now it stood as a silent witness to a horrific crime. The sounds of weeping filled the village, men carrying the small bodies one after another, wrapping them in white cloths. Each body lifted was accompanied by a mother’s scream, a father’s collapse, and the silent shock and anger of neighbors at the savagery of the aggression’s mercenaries. The sky watched in silence, the sun set as if ashamed to witness this scene, and the whole village turned in moments into an open mourning ground. Every house held a story of pain, every heart lost a piece of itself in this bloody era. Thus, a small soccer match on a dusty field turned into the funerals of five children, a massacre that will remain etched in the memory of every mother and father in Al-Arsoom, and in the heart of everyone who survived. And so, the mercenary militias of the aggression once again revealed their familiar ugly face, targeting innocent childhoods that only dreamed of scoring a goal on a dusty field. The blood of Mubarak, Osama, Basheer, Anas, and Ahmed will not dry, nor be forgotten. It will remain a witness to their brutality, and will continue to cry out to the conscience of the world:
“These were children, they were playing, and you killed their innocence.”
This blood will forever testify against the one who fired the shell, against their masters, against those who blessed and remained silent, and will continue to curse every hand stained with the blood of childhood. And against a Saudi aggression that has devastated Yemen—its land and its people—for years and still continues…
