Haaretz provides testimonies from four anonymous soldiers given to them following the release of the Naza documentary.
Following October 7th, strikes against low ranking targets were permitted without any need for senior approval up to 20 civilians.
An intelligence soldier reported that the beginning of the war, the IDF knew nothing Hamas and it’s military wing and the field level.
On the assassination of Ibrahim Biari on October 31st 2023, the IDF only knew he was in a tunnel underneath “large buildings” in Jabalia, and assessed that an strike without warning on Jabalia was needed to prevent Biari from escaping. The operation martyred 250 people, which the IDF at the time claimed was higher than they estimated, but the soldier says was expected.
Haaretz also describes another case on October 13th 2023, where commander Ali Qadi was supposedly “behaving unusually”. Disregarding these concerns, the IDF targeted the house of his family, killing everyone except Qadi.
Another soldier, when talking about the ground offensive into Gaza City, reported that they had concerns over several high rise buildings which may have still housed 25% of its residents. The soldier was told that these residents should be considered targets.
He also added that these operation could have been delayed for a significant period.
Furthermore, Palestinians collecting food and blankets from abandoned homes were considered looters and marked for attack.
