I don’t know Dr. Kondraki very well, so I’m not sure what kind of person he is, but I believe he’s made significant contributions and is an extremely talented scientist.
As for that rumor... to be honest? All I can say is that I find it hard to imagine, and it’s extremely dangerous. I’ve known a colleague (who has since left the company) who was obsessed with these foundation rumors, and he seemed to genuinely hope he’d one day become the protagonist of such a story. I rarely comment on other people’s visions, but I think that kind of thinking is truly dangerous. While we should recognize the possibility that something this extreme could happen to us one day, and that we’ll need to respond calmly when it does... we absolutely should not romanticize such incidents.
At the time of the incident, Dr. Kondraki didn't do that just for "fun," did he?

After leaving the medical room, I went back to my dorm to shower and change. Then I suddenly felt very hungry, so I went to the break room for pizza.
